Hairy Lemon Island

Activities are varied…

Enjoy our four chill-out areas:

  1. The Yak Shack which has a selection of comfy couches, tables and chairs and also has our very own awesome Lemon Twister painted on the floor!
  2. Bern Cave Chill Out which has the best view on the island…
  3. The Shisha lounge; which provides a shady corner close to the restaurant with two of the most beautiful Adirondack chairs to lounge about in;
  4. Or the latest addition and even more cosy; the Nest.

You can also choose to read your book on our swing seat over-looking the Nile River, or better still, head to the beach with a picnic mat and some home-baked cookies for some serious R&R. If you find all the action just a little too hectic; then how about a game of Uno, Scrabble or Bananagrams or perhaps a yoga session under the tree canopies?

Swimming in the various pools and inlets around the island is a great way to cool off after a hard day’s relaxation and the stunningly beautiful “natural” jacuzzi is just a 5 minute walk from our front beach.

For the more actively minded, why not indulge in some water volleyball with a net just metres away from the bar, or practice a little slack line walking that requires some balance and provides a great core work out.

We also have footballs and frisbees on offer too. The Hairy Lemon offers a rather unique 9 hole “Frolf” course around the island that comes complete with score card, handicap and course record.

On top of our camping hill, we have built a “bouldering” wall that has some pretty awesome rock climbing moves across it for all levels of ability – beginner to advanced! Try your hand at “Red Route; no big feet” for a strong core workout

Horse riding along the banks of the River Nile is another firm favorite amongst many of our guests. Nile Horseback Safaris offer a unique experience on beautiful and exceptionally well trained horses. They are approximately 35kms from us and can cater for all levels of riding abilities – beginner to advanced. Check out their website for more information. A water ferry runs between Nile River Explorers and Nile Horseback Safaris and transport can be arranged to meet you after your ride.

Want to go rafting or kayaking? The world famous Nile Special rapid can be found just a short paddle away from our front beach. Kayakers usually bring their own equipment but for those of you less experienced but wanting a taste of the river, we can arrange to book kayaking lessons for you through Kayak the Nile.

The Lemon is a great place to practice your SUP skills. Stand-up paddleboarding or SUP as it is widely known is the fastest growing water sport. Whether you have never heard of it or are a seasoned pro, Nile SUP is here to help you experience the Nile and subtly give you a full body work out at the same time. Contact Nile SUP for more information.

If you are after a wilder ride, then the experience of either grade 3, 4, 5 or Extreme Rafting is definitely an option. There are a number of experienced rafting companies in Jinja (Nile River Explorers, Nalubale, or Adrift) and what’s even better is that they all end their day literally 100 metres from our farm gate. They can arrange to get your bags sent down to us so that you don’t have to worry about them and all you have to do is paddle the infamous Nile! Bookings are essential for either kayaking or rafting.
